The Art of Context Switching: How the Chief Brand Officer of Bobbie Manages Chaos at Work and Home

It’s finally here! The premiere of The New Modern Mom Podcast. You guys, you have no idea how much heart has been poured into this series. It’s brought me joy, tears, stress, SO MUCH imposter syndrome, excitement… literally all the feels.

In this episode, I sit down with the incredible Kim Gebbia Chappell, the former news anchor turned Chief Brand Officer at Bobbie, the revolutionary infant formula company. She’s sharing how she’s mastered the art of context switching as she juggles between managing a leadership role at a rocketship startup and being a mom to three kids under age 6 🤯

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I would be grateful beyond words if you left a review on your podcast platform of choice. It takes 20 seconds from you, but makes a massive difference to me 🙏

Bonus tools and takeaways

As a subscriber, I ask each of our guests to share with us some tangible tools, tips, links and personal stories as little extras for you that we don’t cover in the episode.

What is your professional superpower and how has it shown up in your personal and family life?

Polished not perfect: know when things need to be polished, not perfect and when they need to be polished AND perfect. Picking and choosing where you put your energy and when to just keep moving can take the weight off of the expectations on us professionally and personally as a mom.

Examples:

  • I worked as a news reporter for 10 years and you don’t always have time, facts and perfection by the time you go live for the show. You just take what you do have and make the most of it!

  • My linked in post will often have grammatical errors. Whatever, I don’t have time to edit now. The NYT ads and copy on our cans do not. They need to be perfect.

  • Being a fountain or a drain. Do you leave people feeling inspired or drained? That’s your team. Your kids your husband. What kind of energy are you pouring out. There is nothing worse than spending time with someone who is a drain— you will know it when you do. You’re just ready to get off that zoom, leave the party, or call it out on your kids. I say “you’re being a drain”. NOT you’re draining me. But you are being a drain.

What are you cooking these days?

Girl dinners. I’m trying to up my protein so I’m snacking on sandwich meat, feta cheese, carrot sticks. Simple mills crackers and, I’m a sauce gal, so I love to use the Siete sauces to keep it interesting.

What are you reading?

Slack. 🫠🫠🫠

What are you listening to?

Taylor Swift because of my 6 year old and banana phone by Raffi on repeat. I’m not an avid podcast listener. I usually wait until someone sends me one they think I should listen to. We are launching the second season of our own podcast Milk Drunk and I’m pumped about it!

What are you wearing - mom uniform, for work, for weekends?

Listen I may not always know the part, but I’m always going to look the part!! I love fashion so much and Covid + kids really killed that for me but I’m rediscovering my new style at 40 now. For more of a quiet luxury moment, I’m doing neutrals from Vince and denim from Mother or Frame. I love La Vie caftans or Johanna Ortiz if I go designer, or Farm Rio for fun prints.

What are the products, services or rituals you can’t live without in your daily routine?

Solid Core workouts. My LED aesthetics red light mask, Ilia foundation and sunscreen, Perelel symbiotic greens powder, Haus under eye coverup.

Favorite accounts to follow?

Dr Jonny Betteridge, PedsDocTalk, Dr Becky, bratbustersparenting (which is iconic IMO).

Where are you traveling?

Our family’s special place is Sea Island, GA. We got married here and now take our kids here and it’s just such a special low key place for us to spend time together in quintessential coastal GA. I also just turned 40 and I’m inspired by Sarah Blakeley who takes her best friends on a surprise trip every year together. So I sold my square stock and I’m taking 9 friends on a surprise trip in April! We have 20+ kids between all of us and we never get time together so I’m making it happen.
