I’ve always had a bougie vision for life. But I’m also very frugal…the kind of person who won’t buy a $6 kombucha at Whole Foods, but will research a $58 face oil like it’s a thesis project, then buy it. That contradiction has kind of become my lifestyle philosophy.
This spring has been anything but slow. May was a marathon, and June kicked off with six straight days of events at MNT: two panels to moderate, two influencer classes to host, and a booth (plus a mat Pilates class) at Union Street Festival. The rest of the month isn’t letting up either. We’re bouncing between three studio locations, juggling two different school drop-offs, two IRL events (SF moms… are you joining me June 22?) and trying to squeeze in double dates with friends before we leave for France in just two weeks.
So amidst the never-ending plans, how do I still feel like I’m building (and enjoying) that bougie life I dream of?
I’ve learned that luxury isn’t just about price. It’s about presence.
It’s dim lighting and a diffuser going during evening kitchen cleanup. A pretty little tray for my jewelry in the bathroom. Pouring a Poppi into a glass with a stem, just because. These aren’t grand gestures. They’re micro-moments that help me enjoy the moment, even if mundane.
And yes, I absolutely believe in splurging sometimes. A great massage. A fancy dinner out. A vacation where someone literally unpacks your bags for you (Le Blanc Cabo, I’m still thinking about you). But mostly, I believe in savoring. The weekday lunch eaten outside. The upgraded hand soap at the sink. The playlist that turns the morning chaos into a vibe.
We can’t always control the pace of life. But we can choose how we move through it. And sometimes that means enjoying those tiny, ordinary moments in ways that make you feel expensive.
