Don’t do *this* again this summer.
The one thing I won’t do this summer...and you shouldn’t either.
COOKING Dill Pickle Chicken Skewers obsessed with pickles, can’t wait to try this KaleJunkie recipe next week!
EYEING Omnilux Red light Mask I hosted a panel last week at MNT debunking wellness trends, and the experts agreed this one is worth the money
CELEBRATING 9 years of marriage with husband Jason!
WATCHING Married at First Sight I've watched every single season, and no plans on stopping. Love how Netflix cuts out all the commercials.
SHARING The Weekly Meeting Game Plan this is how Jason and I stay connected and supported each week
Currently
Here’s the truth: until last year, summer barely felt different from the rest of the year. Work didn’t slow down. The kids still needed care. Sure, there were more beach days and pool time, but Monday through Friday? It was the same daily juggle.
Then we spent last summer living abroad and everything changed.
We didn’t just shift time zones, we shifted how we lived. Mornings were ours. Time to move our bodies, sip coffee slowly, wander, breathe. Afternoons were for work. Evenings for connection. Weekends for adventure and family. Every day felt like two in one.
For the first time since becoming a mom (and maybe even my adult life), summer felt like it belonged to me too.
And we decided it couldn’t be a one-time thing. And it won’t. We’re heading to France at the end of the month.
I know not everyone can pick up and work from another country for weeks at a time (although if you want to, here’s how to do it). But that’s not really the point. What I learned is that we default to making summer special for our kids, but we deserve to feel the magic too.
So this is your reminder: carve out a version of summer that’s just for you.
It could look like taking a full-day(s) staycation while your kids are at camp. Claiming your own series of summer Fridays. Brunching once a week with your husband at your favorite spot. Picking up a low-stakes hobby like pickleball or even at-home pottery. Committing to Wednesday night self-care. Or finally getting back into consistent movement just 20 mins a day.
Whatever it is, choose it on purpose. Block the first occurrence on your calendar now. Give yourself something to look forward to.
Because yes, we’re the magic-makers. But we’re allowed to experience the magic too.
