Hello from the Paris airport 🇫🇷 I’m sipping a very average cappuccino while my kids are fully locked into their iPads, something they haven’t touched since our last trip six months ago (which is wild). They’re thrilled. I’m caffeinated. Everyone’s winning…until the lack-of-sleep tantrums kick-in.
It’s been a nonstop few months. We opened SF’s first Wellness Social Club, hosted 20+ events across both MNTSTUDIOs, and made some big hires. I launched a new Toolkit Series on the podcast, squeezed in a girls trip to NYC, and prepped for five weeks in France 😮💨
Along the way, I’ve spoken on a bunch of podcasts, panels, and fireside chats. And one theme keeps coming up:
“What made you think it would work to leave your corporate job?”
“What made you believe you could buy a Pilates studio and build something like a Wellness Social Club?”
(BTW: we’ve actually bought two businesses. We acquired a Pilates studio last October in addition to MNTSTUDIO Palo Alto. I haven’t shared much about that one yet, but more on that soon.)
That theme: confidence in making “risky” decisions. The truth? I wasn’t. Not even close. What I was… was curious.
That mindset, curiosity over confidence, is what’s guided every big move I’ve made. From raising my hand at work before I felt “ready,” to launching a business that blends wellness, work, and community, to figuring out how to make our first summer abroad actually work as a family.
I’ve never had all the answers. I’m not one of those people who needs every detail dialed in before I start. What I am is someone who’s really good at asking why, and then moving forward before I talk myself out of it. The abstract never has intimidated me, it inspires me.
We wait for confidence like it’s supposed to show up and tell us, “Yep, now’s the time.” But confidence is built from action. It’s a side effect, not a prerequisite.
And honestly? What’s harder is acting when you don’t know how it’ll go. That’s where most people stop. Here’s how I keep going:
Start with a question.
Every new chapter started with “What if?” Not a 20-slide pitch deck. (Though, yes, you know I love a good OKR exercise once things get rolling.)
Create order from chaos.
I break things down into systems. Tiny steps. Low-stakes tests. Sometimes it’s a Google Doc. Sometimes it’s a messy scratch pad of notes. It’s not about polish, it’s about movement.
Decide like a scientist, not a perfectionist.
New ideas are hypotheses. Not lifelong commitments. You don’t need certainty. You need curiosity and a plan.
That mindset is what helped me climb fast in tech. It’s what got me to bet on myself (again and again). And it’s what’s made the biggest difference in how I live and lead today.
It’s why “fail fast and iterate” is built into every decision I make. And it’s why when someone asks me “How did you know?” I’ll keep saying: I didn’t.
But I asked questions. And then I moved forward.
So this month, if you’re sitting with something new, something you can’t shake… don’t wait around to feel ready. It will never be “the time.”
Ask one good question. Take one small step. Let curiosity be what moves you.
